Another year starts, time for fresh ideas, fresh projects and more important, a better view.
It's been 4 years since we decided to make our little eBay sales setup into a real legal business. We incorporated ourselves as a legal business identity in 2016 in the state of OREGON. We had faced many challenges, failed many times but we are still determined to make our plans and dreams a reality. As I sit down to write this blog, I realized how much have changed in the last couple of years. I've struggled with sleep apnea for some time now, but it was during 2017 and 2018 that it was the worst. I technically passed those two years half asleep. Today after more than 8 months of treatment, I can see and think more clearly. This few lines that I had written so far in less than 20 minutes would have taken me more than an hour to write with much more effort and less clarity. This renew energy and clarity will help us into restructuring our company, goals and mission to its next level.
One of those changes already took effect. EBay was a great site to sell our toys back when we started. Unfortunately eBay had change its business model and had become a over saturated marketplace where small businesses like ours do not thrive unless you buckle to lower your profit line to be able to sell as cheap as other do. I want to sell affordable recovered toys, new toys, collectible toys to persons that will cherish those toys, but eBay has become a playground for speculators and cheap imitators.
Our solution is simple, get rid of eBay and start our own web store linked directly to this website so we can start offering our toys more directly to the public.
This is a new year, one more time to restart what we love to do, recover toys to offer them at people that would love, want and desired them.
Once upon a time in Portland OR, there was a little family that had a dream. They dreamed of owning a small company where they could not only sustain the family's needs, but could use the retail space to share their love for toys and their personal journey involving toys and Autism.
This is a video that we shoot showing some of the LEGO sets that will be in our eBay store soon.
It's been a while since we had a decent look at our website. Life has been up and running, and we had been playing catch up with it.
Last year was a really educational year. We had plans and projects that came and went. Some had great results.
We got the IDA Funding to outfit and purchase shelving, fixtures and other needed stuff for the retail store, which we used in full advantage.
We also got funding through KIVA ZIP for a comprehensive marketing campaign and an upgrade to our computing and technical equipment. We had upgraded to a brand new computer with great computing power and are planning our marketing campaign to begin on March.
Then we had our not so good backfires, like our failed events at Arte Soleil last holiday season. Also, as you may noticed by the lack of news, our funding for the retail store got shot in the air and we couldn't get a location this year. We are disappointed, but not beaten.
This is a challenging year. With all the political and social upheaval, as well as a hazy economical future, we are faced with the prospect of either weather another year of of dismal online sales with the advent of a more robust AMAZON presence, as well as the dwindling of great retailers like Macy's, Sears, ToysRus. Or face our fears, brace our guts and prepare for the ride of our lives and brave the uncertain economical weather that opening a brick and mortar retail store entrails, and either be swallowed by the economic backlash; or be bold and a pioneer and survive and prosper against all odds in our venture in the retail sector.
We are facing a new year, with all its challenges and rewards. And we want to be there, in the middle of the storm, paddling against the current to get to our goals. All I promise is this, we won;t give up our dreams so easily with out a decent fight and effort from our part. I also promise to keep you up with us in this new and renew commitment to our dream, objectives and goals.
